PLU Introduces Two New Majors: Biochemistry & Chemical Physics

Exciting news for students passionate about chemistry and its intersections with biology and physics – PLU now offers Biochemistry and Chemical Physics as standalone majors!
Both programs have been available as concentrations within the Chemistry major for years, and now as degrees will provide students with a more specialized and comprehensive education in their respective fields. Biochemistry is ideal for those interested in the molecular foundations of life, with applications in medicine, biotechnology, and research. Chemical Physics focuses on the physical principles underlying chemical systems, perfect for students drawn to the intersection of chemistry, physics, and advanced materials.
“We are not changing any curriculum, but rather, are making the presence of biochemistry and chemical physics as degree options more transparent to prospective and current students,” said Ann Auman, Dean of the College of Natural Sciences.
These new degree paths offer tailored coursework and research opportunities, preparing students for graduate study, professional schools, and careers in science and industry.
Stay tuned for more details on course offerings, faculty insights, and how these new majors can shape your academic and professional journey!
