Student Leader Positions Available for 2025-2026

Residential Assistant (RA)

Students who are interested in the RA position must complete and submit a Student Leader Application before Monday, January 6, 2025 at 11:59PM. Incomplete or late applications will not be given priority. Only fully submitted applications in completion will be fully considered.

About the Resident Assistant Position + Job Overview

Resident Assistants (RA) are trained and paid student leaders who are committed to creating an inclusive living/learning community in the residence halls. They serve the residential community through a variety of responsibilities including community building, programming, mediation, crisis response and policy enforcement. Campus Life also offers a variety of RA positions to help meet the needs of certain populations of students.

The RA position is comprised of a variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Desk Shift: Build community and assist residents and visitors at the front desk 4 hours/week
  • Program Planning: Based on the community development model in your hall and Learning Community, provide opportunities to encourage resident learning and interaction through planned events and bulletin boards
  • Community Development: Develop individual relationships with each resident through intentional interactions (wing meetings, programs, LuteConnects, Student Care follow-up, and supporting Campus events)
  • Facilities Management: Submit online work orders to Facilities Management and follow-up with work orders as needed
  • Hall Duty: Be available to residents, proactive with facilities concerns, perform walkthroughs of building and complete duty logs in a timely manner
  • Attend approximately 2.5 hours per week in required staff training, weekly meetings, and individual one on one meetings with supervisors

Time Commitment & Compensation

Time Commitment: Resident Assistants work an average of 13 hours per week, including desk shifts, meetings, and administrative tasks. Additional hours are allocated at the beginning and end of semesters for hall opening and closing. Mandatory RA Training (Campus Life LEAD) occurs approximately 2 weeks before the start of Fall Semester.

Compensation: Resident Assistant compensation is comprised of the following:

  • Housing credit to pay for on-campus housing
  • Hourly page up to 6.5 hours per week at $17.83 per hour

Position Requirements

  • PLU cumulative GPA of 2.0; if successful applicants have a cumulative GPA between 2.0 and 2.5, they will participate in an academic support program until their cumulative GPA is 2.5 or higher.
  • Full-time status (min. of 12 credits/semester)
  • Be in good academic and conduct standing with the university

Partial, incomplete, or late applications will not be accepted after the deadline. Students who do not select the Resident Assistant position on their Student Leader Application will not have the option to update their position selection to include the RA position after the above deadline.

The application will include the general questions that are applicable to all Student Leader positions, as well as specific questions regarding the applicants Learning Community placement preference. All applications are reviewed fully by Campus Life professional staff and count towards the applicants application and candidacy.

Commuter Advocates are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive community on campus for the Lutes Commute Community. They serve the community through a variety of responsibilities including engaging with students one-on-one (i.e. Lute Connects), in group settings, and through program development/execution.

The CA position is comprised of a variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Community Presence: Time for Commuter Advocates to spend in community areas to intentionally interact with students and develop relationships
  • Program Planning: Plan and execute small and large scale community building activities hosted both on and off campus. 
  • Community Development: Develop individual relationships with each resident through intentional interactions (wing meetings, programs, LuteConnects, Student Care follow-up, and supporting Campus events)
  • Attend approximately 1.5 hours per week in required staff training, weekly meetings, and individual one on one meetings with supervisors

PLUS100 TA & LuteGuide

Lute Welcome Guides welcome and support new students as they transition to PLU. As an LuteGuide, you have the opportunity to make a first impression on new Lutes as they join the PLU community. LuteGuides continue throughout the semester to be a teaching assistant (TA) for the corresponding PLUS100 course.

About the PLUS100 TA & LuteGuide Position + Job Overview

LuteGuides welcome and support new students as they transition into PLU during LUTE Welcome Week (New Student Orientation). There are TWO versions of the LuteGuide  position: (1) First-Year LuteGuides (who are also PLUS 100 TAs); and (2) New Transfer & Running Start First-Year LuteGuides (who are LuteGuides only).

LuteGuides (all positions)

  • Support Lute Welcome (New Student Orientation) via attending events and co-facilitating sessions with other student leaders, staff, and faculty
  • Oversee and lead dialogue sessions with your LUTE Group, the students you are assigned to support during Fall LUTE Welcome
  • Foster equitable and inclusive environments to build a sense of belonging at PLU

PLUS100 TA

  • Attend the  65 minute PLUS100 class each week Fall semester and help instructors facilitate class 
  • Assist in grading assignments
  • Host office hours outside of class and host LuteConnects check-ins with students
  • Model appropriate behavior for first year students during face-to-face class time, via email, etc.

Time Commitment & Compensation

Time Commitment:

  • LuteGuides are required to attend mandatory training occurring the week before New Student Orientation. LuteGuides are expected to attend all required events throughout New Student Orientation and assist in supporting events as determined by professional staff.
  • PLUS100 TAs are required to be available approximately 3 hours per week, including the following duties:
    • Required to attend the 65 minute PLUS100 class each week Fall semester
    • Host a 45min-1 hour office hour for meeting with students and complete course planning and/or email correspondence
    • Meet with the faculty instructor for 45min-1 hour weekly for course planning

Compensation: LuteGuides are paid the Washington State minimum hourly wage for all training and attendance throughout New Student Orientation. PLUS100 TAs are paid the Washington State minimum hourly wage for approximately 3 hours per week.

Position Requirements

  • Maintain full time enrollment at PLU for the Fall 2024 term
  • Maintain a 2.0–2.5 semester & cumulative GPAs; good academic & disciplinary standing 
  • Compensation will comprise: 
    • 1)TA: ~6 hours of fall training + approximately 3 hours per week based on student schedules at $16.28 per hour
    • 2) LUTE Guide:~12-15 hours of fall training + ~35-40 Hours for NSO at $16.28 per hour
  • If you are applying for the TA + Lute Guide position, you must be available for all of fall training late August/early September, for all of LUTE Welcome (from 8/30-9/3), and for the entire 14-week fall 2024 semester

Campus Life Coordinator

Campus Life Coordinators (CLCs) are an integral part of the everyday operations in the Campus Life office. CLCs assist students, especially student leaders, in answering questions and providing training opportunities for clubs and orgs, programming, marketing, and assessment initiatives. CLCs also oversee and support student leaders using resources in the ARENA . 

About the Campus Life Coordinator + Job Overview

There are two Campus Life Coordinator positions open for the 2025-2026 academic year. Both positions have different focuses but work collaboratively to support clubs & orgs and the ARENA.

Campus Life Coordinator for Event Planning

  • Assist with design and implementation of the following events and programs: Engagement Fairs and Recognition efforts (i.e. Celebration of Leadership) within specific job tasks and through collaboration with other CLCs, CD for ARENA, and with AD for Campus Life
  • Assist and support student leaders in developing and implementing thoughtful and well done programs and events
  • Assist and support student leaders in completion of liability waivers needed for on and off campus travel and for events with food
  • Proficient comprehension of PLU’s Event Planning Process to provide support to student leaders in the event planning process

Campus Life Coordinator for Marketing & Promotion

  • Support Clubs & Orgs, ASPLU, and other Campus Life initiatives, programs, and projects through regular, consistent, and creative marketing through social media posts, posters, and collaborating with partners like The MAST and IMPACT
  • Assist with managing and responding in the Campus Life engage@plu.edu email account per supervisor direction
  • Meet with and train Clubs & Orgs, ASPLU, RA’s, and other student leaders on campus about how to Market and Advertise for programs & events 
  • Maintain and regularly update the 2nd Floor AUC Events calendar

Time Commitment: Campus Life Coordinators are scheduled for 10 hours per week, which includes a 30 minute meeting with their supervisor every other week and a collective CLC team meeting on off weeks. Campus Life Coordinators are scheduled to work their hours between 8:00AM – 6:00PM Monday through Friday, with flexibility for class schedules. Hours must be completed in person and should be on a consistent basis.

Compensation: Campus Life Coordinators are paid the Washington State minimum hourly wage for all training and worked hours.
