PLU Alert: Campus Safety Information – Multiple Vandalism and Theft Reports

The PLU Campus Safety Office received multiple reports of vandalism, theft, and unauthorized entry. When a cluster of incidents like this occurs, Campus Safety may provide timely emails to keep the community updated. Responsible individuals in most incidents were confirmed to be non-PLU community members and in some cases entered buildings that were not open to the public: 

• Vandalism: PLU staff discovered a classroom in Olson had furniture overturned on 1/20/2025 at 2:41pm
• Vandalism: A group of Non-PLU community members were reported to have overturned furniture inside of Tingelstad on 1/17/2024 at around 8:00am
• Attempted Theft: Campus Safety witnessed an individual attempting to take items from OMM on 1/17/2025 at 2:28pm.
• Vandalism: PLU staff reported discovering a deployed fire extinguisher inside Olson 1/17/2025 at 12:11pm
• Theft: Individuals were witnessed talke multiple items from Lute Locker on 1/17/2025 at 9:15am
• Attempted Vandalism: Individuals were reported punching a PLU vehicle near the AUC on 1/15/2025 at 3:39pm
• Unauthorized Entry: A group of Non-PLU community members were reported inside of Tingelstad Hall and were escorted out by building staff on 1/15/2024 at around 8:30am
• Vandalism: PLU staff witnessed a group of individuals deploying a fire extinguisher inside Olson on 1/15/2025 at 9:03am
• Vandalism: PLU staff discovered a deployed fire extinguisher inside Olson on 1/13/2025 at 8:43am
• Vandalism: PLU Staff witnessed a group of individuals damage the Elevator in the AUC on 1/13/2025 at 7:10am

Here are some things that we as Lutes can do to keep ourselves and our campus safe: 

• Alway make sure doors close behind you, and do not leave external doors propped open.
• Always carry your Lute Card with you for access.
• If you hold a door open for another, please make sure that person would also have access to that space. If a door requires an active LuteCard for entrance, access is limited to current PLU community members and their guests.

If you witness a crime or any activity that you think is suspicious on campus, please immediately call Campus Safety at (253) 535 -7911 so that Campus Safety can respond in a timely manner. In several of the incidents listed above, timely notification allowed Campus Safety to pursue inquiries that identified those responsible.
