Clemson University – Advanced Materials Summer Research Program Application 2021

This Summer Undergraduate Research Program will provide selected students with unique research training and professional development through an intensive ten-week summer program in the Department of Chemistry. In line with the strategic goals of the university, research opportunities will fall within two broad focus areas: Advanced Materials and Chemical Biology. In addition to the research activities, students receive training and opportunities in:

• Literature: search, read, and interpret journal articles related to their project
• Research skills – experimental design, statistical analysis, and data interpretation
• Instrumentation: hands-on training in the fundamentals, usage, and data interpretation
• Professional development, communication skills, ethical considerations and research integrity
• Career planning
• Professional networking
• Diversity in science

Students will be required to form teams with existing students enabling a closer interaction between peers, as well as training experience to the junior mentor. Selected students are expected to work 40 hours/week and submit a mid-term report describing the performed activities and plans for the remaining of the visit. Students will be expected to remain engaged in research activities and to present the results of the program in a scientific meeting.
