Undergraduate Research Opportunity at NIST
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and is advertising a summer undergraduate research position at NIST in Boulder, CO. Details below.
Scanning Probe Microscopy Techniques for 2D and Wide Band Gap Material Quality
Next generation semiconducting materials will rely on two-dimensional (2D) and wide band gap (WBG, e.g. GaN) materials’ unique properties. Batch-to-batch variability in these materials has hindered the use of domestically sourced 2D and WBG materials in advanced electronics. This project will work to identify methods to quantify defects in these materials and identify correlating measurands between various scanning probe microscopy techniques that predict the presence and frequency of these defects. Applicants should have completed introductory chemistry and physics. Familiarity with electricity & magnetism and/or solid mechanics is helpful.
