These Four Years, MediaLab’s newest documentary, will have its on-campus premiere Thursday, April 28, 2016, in the Studio Theater. The film has recently received both the Award of Merit from the Accolade Competition of Southern California and a National Broadcasting Society Award in the documentary category. It is the final event in the 2016 SOAC FOCUS Series on Storytelling.

The documentary by current PLU students, explores the value of higher education in the United States and Canada and its impact on future success. The film, with the help of higher education researchers, educators and students across the continent, reveals the personal, professional and societal effects of higher education in the 21st century, in addition to the difficulties preventing potential students from pursuing four-year degrees.

Students involved in MediaLab, a film production program in the Center for Media Studies, specialize in a variety of media topics including photography, videography, graphic design, web design, public relations, film production and more. The production team for These Four Years included Senior Communication major Natalie DeFord, senior Art and Design major Jasper Sortun, senior Business major Grace Takehara, and senior Communication major Evan Heringer.

The premiere will take place in the Studio Theater of the Karen Hille Phillips Center for the Performing Arts at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2016. There will be a Q/A session after the show with the student filmmakers.

The SOAC FOCUS Series brings together SOAC’s talented students and faculty to examine a chosen theme through a multidisciplinary approach. Through music, art, theatre and film we will explore storytelling, an interactive art form that connects all humans on a deep level, transcending time, location, age and language, while enacting change, understanding and peace.
