Students in Professor Amy Young’s Fall and Spring Strategic Communication classes created a crowdfunding campaign with Undue Medical Debt that raised nearly $19,000 which, in turn, settles nearly $1.9M in medical debt for our neighbors in Washington, Idaho, and Montana.

Students researched key audiences through surveys and focus groups, strategized and planned communications to reach those audiences, and learned to run significant fundraising campaigns.

Undue Medical Debt is the only nonprofit in the medical debt forgiveness sector. Students chose to work on this campaign for their neighbors in the Pacific Northwest, and to use their education in service to the broader community.

Pacific Lutheran University is located in Tacoma, Washington and educates students for lives of thoughtful inquiry, service, leadership, and care for other people, for their communities, and for the earth.
