Starting the Year Off Strong | 积极向上的开始新的学年

Studying abroad can be an overwhelming experience. That is why we’ve dedicated the first two weeks of the year to giving you tools for navigating your new environment, gradually introducing you to campus life and Tacoma, and having some fun along the way. By the time you start your business classes, you’ll have a strong foundation for success.

By the end of Orientation, you will be able to

  • 掌握购物时的常用英语 | Remember useful English vocabulary for shopping
  • 使用基础的英语词汇进行医生就诊 | Use basic English vocabulary for doctor visits
  • 使用基础的英语词汇进行点餐 | Use basic English vocabulary for ordering food
  • 用英文提问以及回答关于基本的个人信息的问题| Ask and answer questions about basic personal information in English
  • 1-2分钟用英文介绍自己以及自己的兴趣爱好| Speak for 1-2 minutes about yourself and your interests in English
  • 找出减少文化冲击的方法 | Identify ways of coping with culture shock
  • 开始了解美国文化与中国文化的差异性与共通性 | Begin to identify cultural differences and similarities between China and the US
  • 了解美国的校园文化和课堂文化 | Identify basics of classroom culture and expectations in the US
  • 习惯使用全英文的教材以及聆听英文教授的授课 | Use strategies for listening to classroom lectures in English
  • 了解PLU学校提供给学生的资源（用英文向他们提问！） | Identify resources for support at PLU (and how to ask for it in English!)
  • 了解学生成功的方法（反思以及实践，时间管理等等）| Identify strategies for student success (reflective practices, time management, etc)
  • 开始能过融入PLU这个大环境 | Begin integrating into the PLU community
