Wait Times and Availability
Extended wait times for mental health services are occurring broadly across the nation due to increased demand for these services. Wait times can vary considerably, depending on type of service, time of year/semester, demand for services, and staffing level.
Unfortunately, due to high demand and staffing limitations, we are unable to accept new clients at this time. However, we can schedule a 30-minute consultation with a counselor to help you find outside or long-term services in the community. Know that PLU Counseling Services works diligently to connect students with mental health services as quickly as possible. Typical wait time is 5-10 days for an initial (first-time) appointment and can extend to 2-3 weeks during high-demand times.
Immediate connection to a counselor is always available 24/7/365 via TimelyCare when using the “Talk Now” feature, and scheduled counseling can often be arranged most quickly through TimelyCare services. PLU student have access to 12 free scheduled sessions through TimelyCare virtual services.

** Consistent with medical and mental health service limitations across the nation, at this time please know appointments may take 2-3 weeks to be scheduled. If you need a sooner appointment, students are encouraged to utilize TimelyCare‘s free mental health counseling services, available 24/7.
To schedule an appointment, call (253) 535-7206 to reach our Clinic Coordinator during business hours (8:00-noon, 1:00-5:00pm), Monday through Thursday. We will need some preliminary information from you to set up an appointment. We do not schedule appointments via email as schedules can change between emails.
Your first appointment is a 30-minute Access Consultation appointment with a licensed psychologist, mental health counselor, or mental health counseling intern, who will listen to your concerns and work with you to determine next steps in supporting your care. Each student is different, and we will work closely with you to determine the best course of action for your individual circumstance. This may include an intake for ongoing support within Counseling Services, brief support for a current concern, or referral out for specialized support or longer-term therapy that falls outside of our scope of services.
Please also be sure to review and understand our Attendance Policy to avoid No-Show fines.
