Students working with the Center for DJS are key contributors to the education, mentorship, community building, activism and promotion of diversity, justice, and sustainability at PLU. DJS Assistants
Minimum hourly wage + Rieke Scholarship
~10 hrs /week Fall & Spring, ~5hrs/week Jterm + Rieke Scholarship Commitments

DJS Assistants bring initiative and innovative ideas to raise and sustain general awareness and education on campus about issues related to culture, intersectional identity, belonging, social and environmental justice, and consent. DJS Assistants staff the DJS Lounge and design and facilitate opportunities for our campus to participate in community, advocacy, and critical curiosity.
DJS Assistants will:
- Work as a team to support the management of the daily rhythm of the DJS Lounge which includes serving as a resource and peer mentor to a diverse group of peers who visit the space and facilitating weekly DJS Lounge Check Ins.
- Collaborate with cross campus groups to contribute creative ideas to the planning, execution, and assessment of annual programs, campaigns and celebrations including identity retreats, cultural celebrations, and DJS workshops and dialogues.
- Additionally, serve as the student coordinator for a specific Center for DJS program/project. 2023-2024 projects include:
- Active Bystander & Consent (ABC) –coordinate consent and bystander intervention campaigns for education and dialogue in classrooms, residence halls, and other campus spaces.
- Sista* Circle – Coordinate biweekly gatherings for womxn, nonbinary, femme, and trans people of color that discuss self-love, colorism, growth, and the challenges and joys of being us.
- Communication – Coordinate the Center for DJS digital communication and engagement efforts including the DJS Digest newsletter and social media accounts
- Dialogue – Coordinate campus wide DJS dialogue programs including Talk Story, caucuses, and JTerm Book Group.
Successful candidates will:
- Have completed at least one semester at PLU
- Maintain full time enrollment at PLU for the 2023-2024 academic year
- 2.5 semester and cumulative GPA and good academic and disciplinary standing
- Believe in social justice and commit to promoting DJS and eliminating sexism, racism, cissexism, heterosexism, ableism, xenophobia and all forms of oppression.
- Express curiosity and commitment in continuing their own leadership development and identity formation
- Desire to be a peer mentor
- Experience or willing to learn project management
- Experience working as a member of diverse teams.
- Operates with a commitment to organization, punctuality, and communication.
- Demonstrates initiative, creativity, flexibility, and manage time and projects independently
- Ability to build effective relationships with students, faculty, staff and community partners
- Be available for all of Fall training & Lute Welcome beginning mid August. Confirmation of dates will be given to the hired candidate.
DJS Assistants - Community Garden
Minimum hourly wage + Rieke Scholarship
10 hrs/week June 1 – Oct 31st + Rieke Scholar Commitments during academic year

DJS Assistants bring initiative and innovative ideas to raise and sustain general awareness and education on campus about issues related to culture, intersectional identity, belonging, social and environmental justice, and consent. DJS Assistants for the Community Garden work during the summer and fall to coordinate the planting, harvesting, and community engagement within the PLU Community Garden.
DJS Assistants – Community Garden will:
- Work as a team to support the management of the garden through planting, harvesting, and watering
- Coordinate and facilitate regular volunteer community work parties that assist in garden maintenance and community connection and learning
- Assist with weekly food donations to our local food pantries
- Explore ways community gardens can assist in facilitating connection with each other and the living environment.
- Additionally, eligible DJS Assistants receive a Rieke Scholarship and are expected to participate in the monthly leadership development meetings, workshops and programs (~12 hrs/month)
Garden experience is not required for this position. Rather, we are seeking applicants who are willing to learn new skills and expand their knowledge of ways community gardens can assist in facilitating connection with each other and the living environment.

DJS FUNd Team Members

The Office of DJS is hiring DJS FUNd Team Members for the 2023-2024 academic year! The DJS FUNd Team is responsible for managing the DJS Fee, a student fee that allocates funding towards engaging campus in diversity, justice, and sustainability connect programs and initiatives. The DJS FUNd Team is responsible for setting the DJS Fee budget, allocating funds towards special DJS projects, and sharing out the impact of the funds.
DJS FUNd Team Members will:
- Work as a team to seek out student feedback that will inform initiatives to prioritize in the next budget cycle and design a plan for sharing out impact of the DJS Student Fees
- Serve as a liaison with a department(s) linked to a DJS Fee initiative to advocate for their DJS programs/projects and support their administrative responsibilities connected with the fee.
- Collaborate with other student leaders to advocate for DJS initiatives in our community.
Successful candidates will:
- Have completed at least one semester at PLU
- Maintain full time enrollment at PLU for the 2023-2024 academic year
- 2.5 semester and cumulative GPA and good academic and disciplinary standing

OR Leader for SOC Trips

The Center for DJS and Outdoor Recreation are partnering to recruit 2 OR Trip Leaders to design and lead trips for Students of Color. This position involves the planning, advertising, and leading of OR trips/events, as well as weekly duties including trip leader meetings and tabling. Applicants should have leadership experience and be responsible/enthusiastic about the outdoors , and willing to work with groups of people with varying abilities and personalities. OR Trip Leaders are expected to continuously expand their outdoor knowledge** and facilitate meaningful experiences for their trip participants. **OR will pay/reimburse for Wilderness First Aid (WFA) and CPR certifications; no professional outdoor experience is necessary.
