PLU network services have security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse, or alteration of information under university management. All activity on PLU network servers may be monitored, recorded, or backed up.
Pacific Lutheran University automatically logs certain data generated by accessing and navigating PLU Web:
- Network addresses of those who use PLU network services, accompanied by the date and time of use, may be collected to help diagnose server problems, limit access to licensed resources, and generally administer the web site.
- Use of restricted campus resources requires users to provide unique identifiers to verify proper identification, which in turn may be stored for future diagnostic and administrative purposes.
- PLU network services use service order and feedback forms for current and prospective students, faculty, and staff to request information and services.
- Chat rooms, forums, message boards, and blogs are available to the users of PLU network services. Though access to some of these areas is restricted to the PLU community, any information that is disclosed in these areas may become public.
PLU web sites contain links to other sites. Contracted (e.g., hosted) services are arranged only after review of the vendor’s privacy and security policies and practices, in most cases accompanied by a data sharing agreement consonant with PLU policies. Vendor policies and practices can change without proper notice to or awareness of PLU personnel, however, so Pacific Lutheran University cannot be responsible for the privacy practices or content of linked sites.
