The means by which data is created, stored, accessed, transmitted, and disposed is the focus of this policy — a framework within which all members of the PLU community must work to access the network, use and control data, enable non-university entities to access or use university data, and actively maintain a secure computing environment.
It is the right and responsibility of the university to restrict access to internal or restricted information by assigning access rights and privileges to individuals. It is the responsibility of all members of the community to abide by these policies and practices. While individuals may create data in the conduct of university business, PLU retains ownership of and responsibility for such data. The university therefore enforces these policies in the interests of data integrity, personal privacy, and effective operation of the university.
Data stewards, as creators and managers of access to institutional data within the operational areas of the university, are key personnel for the application of these policies.
