LUTE Welcome Mission & Learning Objectives

Pacific Lutheran University welcomes new Lutes—incoming students, their families and their communities—through LUTE Welcome, a series of intentionally designed learning experiences that support students’ academic and social transitions into college. Among these events, New Student Orientation (NSO) is an integral step on Lutes’ journeys toward understanding and expressing the distinctive PLU mission.

NSO Learning Objectives

  1. Understand and articulate the distinctions of PLU’s approach to education and learning: Lutheran Higher Education; Vocation; and Diversity, Justice and Sustainability.
  2. Begin building relationships with members of the Lute community – students, staff, faculty, and alumni – by exploring opportunities for academic, social, and community engagement.
  3. Utilize tools in order to identify specific campus resources that will be beneficial to meeting their goals as Lutes (e.g. websites, maps, offices).
  4. Understand key university policies and community standards and how to engage with these as active members of a shared community.

Start Your PLU Experience Now

Lutes who participate in LUTE Welcome (New Student Orientation) are more successful at PLU and able to better navigate campus. LUTE Welcome includes 2 steps to orienting yourself to PLU to be set up for success (learn more below!). After completing these steps as part of our LUTE Welcome experiences, you’ll know what to expect on your first day of classes, learn about clubs and organizations you can join, and make lifelong friendships.

As students at PLU, we know how important it is to learn about how you will organize your life as a student and have created a LUTE Welcome New Student To-Do’s Checklist with campus resources that will support your transition to PLU. Please complete ALL tasks on this checklist BEFORE the first day of LUTE Welcome. We encourage you to take advantage of New Student Registration and Get Stuff Done Days events when you may be on-campus and/or connecting with PLU staff and faculty to complete the checklist!
