The Martinez Foundation partners with three new universities, including PLU

The Martinez Foundation will now be offering scholarships through six graduate level teacher education programs, with Seattle Pacific University, Pacific Lutheran University, and University of Washington Bothell joining Seattle University, University of Washington and Washington State University as Martinez Foundation university partners.

Students must first be accepted into a partner university’s program before applying for The Martinez Foundation’s scholarship. To qualify, applicants will come from an under-represented minority background, have financial need, and agree to teach in a Washington State public school for a minimum of three years. Awardees also demonstrate a commitment to eliminating the opportunity gap in Washington State and have a desire to participate in a cohort of Fellows dedicated to lifelong professional development and excellence in teaching.

“We are very excited to add three more incredible programs to the wonderful university partnerships we already have,” said Executive Director Ian Adair. “We are grateful for the important work they do in preparing the next generation of educators and look forward to having their students join our next cohort of Martinez Fellows.”

Scholarships are awarded each spring. The new cohort will be set before The Martinez Foundation’s annual summer institute at IslandWood on Bainbridge Island. The Martinez Foundation has granted over $754,000 in scholarships over the last five years and will have 45 Fellows teaching in Washington State public schools next fall.
