New MediaLab Event Features Career Advice from Successful Alumni
Six alumni came back to Pacific Lutheran University on April 22 to serve as panelists for the inaugural MediaLab Presents event.
The panelists, who graduated from PLU in 2005 or more recently, all work in high-profile jobs in communication and business: 
1. Chris Bowen ’09 graduated with a degree in PR and Advertising and now works as a Senior Project Manager at Radarworks in Seattle.
2. Kristi Bruner ’09 graduated with a degree in International Business and a minor in Spanish and is now a Marketing Project Manager for Inviso Corporation, working closely with its main client, Microsoft.
3. Chelsea Gorrow ’08, a journalism major, works for The Daily Astorian.
4. Nike employee Bre’ Greenman ’09 earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree focusing on marketing while minoring in communication.
5. Graham Johnson ’05, a communication major, is an on-air reporter for KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.
6. Rob Ripely, a graphic designer for P.K. Inc. in Seattle, graduated with a degree in Photography and Graphic Design.
The panelists discussed how to make the transition from college to career and shared what they wish they had known while they were going through the process themselves. (Among the advice: Be organized, enthusiastic, dedicated and hard-working.)
Panelists also shared how many internships students should aim for, their takes on graduate school, what the job market looks like and how to make yourself stand out in a pile of resumes.
“This is a great way for students to learn from people who hold jobs that we aspire to have and how to get there ourselves,” said Amanda Brasgalla, MediaLab General Manager.
The event consisted of questions prompted by two MediaLab moderators, Valery Jorgensen and Sam Horn, as well as a question-and-answer session.
MediaLab Presents, hosted by MediaLab, an applied internship and research program through the School of Arts and Communication, will be a series of events, each with different topics.
