TACOMA, WASH. (Nov. 30, 2015)- It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas at Pacific Lutheran University. Throughout its 125-year history, PLU has developed numerous holiday pastimes that honor a variety of traditions, cultures and forms of joyful expression.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Crow Ho Ho Dec. 16 | 7:30 | Black Box Theatre (Karen Hille Phillips Center for the Performing Arts)
PLU’s student improv group, the Clay Crows, presents an evening of holiday themed improvised performance.
Nordic Fest Dinner Dec. 19 | 5 p.m. | Scandinavian Cultural Center
This year’s theme is “A Child’s Christmas Wish.” Evening will Celebrate Nordic Children’s Literature and traditional Scandinavian holiday food including glogg (warm, spiced win).

Annual Norwegian Language Advent Service Dec. 2 | 7 p.m. | Ness Family Chapel
Happy first of Advent! PLU will be celebrate the season with our Norwegian Language Advent Service with Pastor Art Sortland officiating in Norwegian. All are welcome to this event and to have kransakaka afterwards.
Carols with Cassie Dec. 3 | 10:30 a.m. | Scandinavian Cultural Center
Join harpist Cassie Reinbolt for some carol singing! Cassie will play some holiday tunes as attendees enjoy free coffee and cookies, once those are finished, join in on some caroling.

Annual German Language Advent Service Dec. 3 | 5 p.m. | Scandinavian Cultural Center
All are welcome to our 3rd annual German language Advent service. Students, staff, and current and emeritus faculty participate in the speaking portions, and a student ensemble and choir provide the music, also all in German. The event is co-sponsored by the Dept. of Languages and Literatures and Campus Ministry.
Celebration of Light Dec. 4 | 5:15 p.m. | Centennial Red Square
The event kicks off with a Jingle Run (sign ups on IMLeagues). Check in for the Jingle Run starts at 4:00pm and the run starts at 4:15pm. After the run, enjoy some hot chocolate and activities. To end this celebration, the tree lighting will be at 5:15pm with festive carols.
Sounds of Christmas Dec. 4 | 8 p.m. | Lagerquist | Tickets
The University Singers and Men’s Chorus present an intimate musical journey through the season, framed in the format of the traditional Lessons and Carols. Come hear biblical readings, songs both familiar and new, and even participate in singing a few of the carols with the choirs! Richard Nance conducts the Men’s Chorus; Brian Galante conducts the University Singers. The performance also features Paul Tegels, organist.
A Christmas Invitation Dec. 5, 6, 11 and 12 | Lagerquist Concert Hall

Ring in the season with a Christmas celebration that is sure to warm the heart and lift your holiday spirit! This year’s program will feature the world premiere of critically acclaimed composer J.A.C. Redford’s A Christmas Invitation, a three-movement work composed for PLU’s Choir of the West, University Chorale and University Symphony Orchestra. The choirs and orchestra also will premiere December: A Meditation on Advent, composed by PLU Professor of Music Greg Youtz.

Swing Club Holiday Dance Dec. 9 | 7 p.m. | Chris Knutzen Hall
Join the PLU Swing Club for their annual, end-of-semester dance. The evening will begin with a basic lesson in swing techniques and social dancing to make sure you can dance the night away.

KPLU Christmas Jam Dec. 10 | 12 p.m. |Karen Hille Phillips Performing Arts Center
88.5 KPLU’s 19th Annual KPLU Christmas Jam features tenor saxophonist Anton Schwartz. Anton will perform Christmas selections with the University Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Dr. David Deacon-Joyner, who will play piano with Anton’s quartet, which also includes bassist Clipper Anderson and drummer Mark Ivester.

25th Annual Winterfest Dec. 12 | 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. | East Campus
On December 12, PLU CCES will welcome local Parkland, Tacoma and Spanaway families to the 25th Annual Winterfest with coats, toys, games, arts and crafts, and a visit from Santa. Over 500 families are invited to the this event and we need 300+ volunteers to help the event run smoothly. Interested in volunteering or donating much needed items?
(Winterfest is by invitation only. Families should contact these organizations directly for invitations: Franklin Pierce Schools, Bethel School District, Franklin Pierce Head Start/ECAEP, Eastside Family Support Center, Exodus House.)
Sankta Lucia Fest Dec. 12 | 5 p.m. | Eastvold Auditorium
The Scandinavian Cultural Center is delighted to continue to present the Lucia Festival, featuring PLU students who embody the qualities of light and hope. At the festival, students sing Swedish songs, and dance Scandinavian dances. One of the students will be crowned as the Lucia Bride, and awarded a $500 scholarship.
