2018 Calendar of Events

FEB 1
A Visual Display of PLU’s Black History

Grey Area in the AUC
PLU’s Campus Ministry office will present a month long visual display of PLU’s Black History. Stop by the grey area in the Anderson University Center during the month of February to view this art piece.

FEB 8
Don’t Touch My Hair educational event and photo shoot

Diversity Center – 7pm
Join BSU as we have a photoshoot for anyone who comes to the space focusing on embracing the hair you have while learning about hair. Participants of this event also get to share what exactly they love about their hair and how it is part of their identity.

Chapel – 10:30am
Service open to all and led by students, faculty and staff of color that is rooted in multicultural faith traditions, praise & worship, and opportunities for prayer and expression.

Black History Month Rally

Red Square – TBD
In honor of the 2018 Black History Month theme “African Americans in Times of War,” BSU is hosting a rally to pause and consider the specific and unique issues faced by African Americans in times of war and to commemorate African American veterans. More information about this event will be sent out via email.

BSU Open Mic Night

Hinderlie first floor lounge – 7pm
BSU will host an open mic night to provide a chilled space where anyone with varying amount of talents can put those talents on display. All students are welcome to join in on the fun. This open mic night will also include people displaying talents honoring Black History and Culture.

Northwest African American Museum Field Trip

Seattle, WA
BSU will be organizing a trip to Seattle to tour the museum’s exhibition. We will leave in the morning and the cost is $5 per student. Anyone wanting to join us is advised to pack their own lunch/snacks.

Black Panther Movie Event

AMC Lakewood Mall
BSU is planning a group trip to watch Black Panther in theaters for a discounted price. Tickets are limited so get in touch with BSU ASAP for more information.

Cultural Showcase

Anderson University Center CK – 7pm
BSU is hosting a cultural showcase that will celebrate cultural diversity on campus and will feature students and organizations at PLU. This event includes a fashion show where different individuals can express their identities through clothing.

FEB 24
BSU Community Cookout

Pflueger Outdoor Volleyball Court – 4pm
BSU is having a barbeque out in Foss field. Everyone is welcome to this event as we will have many food options that can fit most dietary restrictions.

FEB 27
BSU movie night

Diversity Center – 7pm
Join BSU in their final closing event for BHM. We’ll be watching the movie “Glory” and also reflecting on how each person experienced and celebrated Black History Month.
