I’m Ashley Stiles (no relation to Harry Styles of One Direction). I am a sophomore at PLU and I am a Politics and Government and intended Hispanic Studies double major. I am absolutely in love with this country and am so glad that I chose to participate in this program! I think my favorite part so far is all of the little cafes that are all around the city, when it starts pouring rain (as it does most days) I just duck into one of these adorable little places and wait it out with a cup of coffee or cocoa and a pastry.
My name is Christiana Slater (Christa) and I am a sophomore studying Religion and Hispanic Studies. I am particularly interested in the influence culture, faith, and politics have on each other. I have studied Spanish since seventh grade and am here in Oaxaca to increase my language flexibility and study what I love. In my free time, I read, write, catch up with friends, and explore the city and cuisine.
My majors are Sociology and Hispanic Studies. I’m incredibly interested in immigration as a global topic and am looking to go to law school to become a lawyer or to work behind the scenes with reform.
My name is James Krick, a current Junior at PLU. I am a double major studying Hispanic Studies and Sociology with a Business minor. I have been learning Spanish since 7th grade, and hope to use this study abroad experience to translate to successful inter-language dialogues with Hispanic students and families living in the Pacific Northwest.
My name is Jonah Kone, a student at the University of Puget Sound, and I major in International Political Economy with minors in Hispanic Studies and Environmental Policy. I am especially interested in how cultural, anthropological, and political factors shape environmental policy, especially with interdisciplinary and international issues such as climate change. As an outdoor enthusiast with an addiction for travel, I hope to do environmental work in the Americas with an international focus.
Lukas is majoring in Hispanic Studies and Anthropology. He’s interested in understanding masculinity and makes way too many forced jokes. Definitely one of the top three guys in the program.
Paige Tobin (aka Patito) (aka Página) is a Junior at Kalamazoo College, double majoring in Anthropology/Sociology and Critical Ethnic Studies. She plans to continue her studies and hopes to achieve work in the field of Anthropology.
I am Rosie Palof, a junior at PLU. I am majoring in Hispanic Studies, and am very excited to be in Oaxaca. I am extremely interested in language education and the links between culture and language. Being in Oaxaca is a fabulous opportunity to explore this relationship, while at the same time make new friends and explore the city.
¡Hola, todos! My name is Samantha Craig and I’m a junior at Pacific Lutheran University. I’m majoring in Global Studies with a concentration in transnationalism, and my minor is anthropology. As any budding scholar, I know the only way to understand a new culture is to dive right in! With that in mind, I’m here in Oaxaca to expand my understanding of Mexico and have some new experiences along the way. In my down-time I like to read, crochet, and cook. In other words, ya soy una abuela.
I’m Siobhan, and I’m a junior at PLU studying Hispanic Studies and History. I chose to come to Oaxaca to improve my speaking abilities and learn more about the culture.
