Biography
Janice Adams develops curriculum for and coordinates all K-20 education programming for the Foss Waterway Seaport’s land and boat-based education programs, summer family programs and education events, and she coordinates with higher education institutions for integrated learning experiences. She has developed learning activities that support the Seaport’s Marine and Environmental Science Program, and the Seaport’s educational touch tanks.
Jan, along with a team of trained volunteers, teaches a wide variety of hands-on, innovative learning experiences each year to over 1,500 students visiting the Seaport. These lessons include Tacoma’s rich working waterfront history, the effects of urbanization on Puget Sound’s marine ecology, and state and federal cleanup activities in Commencement Bay and Thea Foss Waterway. She also collaborates to design educational exhibits annually experienced by over 20,000 Seaport visitors. Jan has a Master of Science in Education from Kansas State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with a Minor in Art from Franklin College. She also earned an AAS-T degree in Media Design and Production from Clover Park Technical College.
