Tacoma Water has an internship opportunity to join our Electrical and Control Systems team under the Planning and Engineering section. As a public utility, we operate and maintain one of the country’s oldest municipally owned water systems and serve more than 300,000 residential and commercial customers.
We are looking for someone who can bring a fresh perspective to the work we do while supporting staff on a variety of projects. The Electrical Engineering Intern can expect to build on their technical skills, further grow their professional development skills and expand their networks. The Electrical Engineering Intern will work on projects related to electrical and control systems, asset management, and cathodic protection. Duties may include project management, collecting and analyzing large quantities of data, performing engineering calculations, reviewing plans, drafting technical memos, and participating in team meetings. The Electrical Engineering Intern will also be able to collaborate with a team, network with other professionals, and learn about various projects across our water system.
Engineering internships are typically 40 hours per week, 12 weeks long, and coincide with the summer break.
Interested candidates must be currently enrolled in an engineering program studying electrical engineering or related field. The roles require advanced technical skills, teamwork, flexibility, ability to organize, perform a variety of on-going tasks, customer service skills, and basic engineering calculations.

Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled in a college-level engineering program designed to result in a bachelor’s degree in engineering
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel desired;
- Experience with 300 level courses desired;
Depending upon assignment a WA driver’s license may be required.
Salary is $30.27 – $36.79 Hourly
