If you would like more storage space or a different look for your room, PLU beds provide you with a variety of options. Beds in the residence halls can be adjusted to multiple heights to accommodate storage space underneath without the use of additional parts. If you are interested in even more space, you can check out a loft kit which raises the bed even higher providing more options. Bunking is also available. Some roommates select the option to bunk their beds in order to provide more available floor space in their room.
Pacific Lutheran University has a significant number of loft kits available for check out. These are accessed on a first come first serve basis. Please see your RA to request a loft kit if you are interested.
Types of Beds on Campus
PLU has two types of beds, tool free and tooled. Each bed type has a slight difference in height adjustment options as well as what is required to assemble or change the height of the bed. Residence hall front desks have a limited supply of tools available for check out to assemble a loft kit or change your bed height. If you plan to request a loft kit at move in or want to change the bed configuration, you might consider bringing your own tool if you have one available.
**Please note that loft kits requested at move in need to be assembled and adjusted to your height preference. Bunking beds requires bunk pins to stack the beds and can be requested, but you will need to assemble the bunked beds with the pins.
Tooled Beds
Halls with tooled beds are South, Harstad, Hong, Hinderlie, and Stuen. These beds require a ⅜ drive ratchet and a ½ inch shallow socket or an adjustable crescent wrench for loft kit assembly or height changes.
All beds in the rooms will be set to Move in Formation at move in, which is the lowest level the bed can be set.
Tooled beds have the following height options:

Returning your Loft Kit or Bunk Pins
Students are responsible for disassembling and returning their own loft kits or bunk pins. Loft kits/pins must be returned to the designated loft kit room in their hall. Students returning a loft kit/pins mid year should contact an RA on duty. Students returning a loft kit/pins at a designated move out time will have the opportunity to return the equipment during scheduled hours to the loft kit rooms.
Students must return their bed to Move in Formation at move out. During room inspections, a bed found to not be in Move in Formation will incur a fine to the corresponding occupant.
