Sund died Dec. 14. Gary was a prominent Clallam County attorney and pro tem judge. Gary attended Pacific Lutheran University, where he majored in political science, and graduated in 1964. In his early career, he worked for Burlington Northern Railway and the state of Oregon under Gov. Tom McCall as public affairs director and earned a Cleo Award for his work. While working full-time, Gary attended night classes at Lewis & Clark Law School, graduating in 1974 with his Juris Doctor. In 1975, he moved to the Sequim area, where he established his first law firm in Dungeness. He was soon joined in partnership by Brent Normoyle, who quickly became his best friend. Gary had diverse interests, from fishing and camping to coaching the women’s softball team The Bandits to fervently supporting the Seattle Mariners and Seahawks, gardening and, most recently, driving his street-legal golf cart all over Sequim. Gary also loved his role as “Commish” of the annual NCAA basketball pool and as a participant in a fantasy football league. In 2002, he married Denice Irish. All who knew Gary thought it was the best thing that ever happened to him. He will be so missed by his family and a plethora of friends. He was a one-of-a-kind and someone you could always count on. Gary is survived by his wife, Denice Irish; three daughters, Michele Kelly, Linette Wilson and Chanel Schwartz; son Jared Wilson; grandchildren Liam, Sophie and Nicole; three brothers, Bill, Tom and Jim Sund; sister Mary Beth Wright; and aunt Shirley Triber. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mavis Sund, and son Christopher (Schwartz) Irish.
