Glenn Zander ’71 died Dec. 11.

Zander died Dec. 11. While attending Pacific Lutheran University, he met Cecilia (Satterthwait) Zander ’73, and they were married June 9, 1973, in Pullman, Wash. Glenn attended Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, preparing to be a pastor of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. After a year of internship in Missoula, Mont., he served a dual parish in Anaconda and Deer Lodge, Mont. He also served churches in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Portland, Ore., before being called in 2001 to St. John Lutheran Church in McMinnville. His special strengths were helping congregations heal their hurts, and helping them grow in their faith and service to God. His extraordinary level of patience was a blessing to his church family as well as to his wife and children. He was blessed to serve three parishes that included schools. He loved all the children, playing and singing with them and, above all, teaching them about Jesus. Glenn and Cec had three children, Joel, Kara Zander ’01 and Jeremy. Kara tragically died in a carbon-monoxide poisoning accident in November 2002. We know they now have been joyously reunited. The Lofgren-Zander Memorial Act was recently instituted in Oregon, requiring homes and apartments to be equipped with carbon-monoxide detectors in order to prevent any further deaths from this silent killer. Glenn is survived by Cecilia; his sons, Joel (Krissa) and their sons, Nathan and Caleb of Aloha, Oregon; and Jeremy (Bethany) of Sherwood. He is also survived by his father, Richard of Vancouver, Wash.; and brothers Bruce of Denver and John of Lacey, Wash. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine, and his daughter, Kara.
