Doris (Hansen) Butler ’55 died May 15, 2015.
Doris Irene Butler passed away Friday, May 15, 2015. She was three days shy of her 81st birthday. She was born in Portland, Ore., the daughter of Hans and Sophie Hansen. She grew up in Puyallup and in Ballard and graduated from Ballard High. She went on to Pacific Lutheran University, earning a Sociology degree, where she met and married Garnet Lund, with whom she had four children: Sueann Sendoykas of Edmonds, Wash.; Bryan Lund of Moses Lake; Dina Lund of Okanogan; and Jana Dukelow of Renton. She was married to Gar for 22 years. Dori worked for John L. Scott as an office manager for 20 years during which she met and married Charles “Ted” Butler. They built a happy life together in Mukilteo, spending much time in the San Juans. Dori has said she was truly happy in her latter part of life with Ted. They enjoyed many activities together, including gardening, the theater, cooking, friends, travel, dancing and shopping and 5 o’clock Happy Hour. In addition to her children, she is survived by her grandchildren Joshua, Cory, Trygve, Kyle and Sydney, and her sister Cinde Kirkland of Lacey. Dori will be remembered as a passionate gardener, Norwegian and animal lover, and for her huge heart for those less fortunate. Her smile was mischievous yet brightened any room. She greatly enjoyed her friends and birthday luncheons together.
