Employees may voluntarily use their own or university-issued respirators when the supervisor has determined that such use will not in itself create a hazard. When voluntary use is permissible, the supervisor must present the employee with this form. The employee must sign the form and the signed copy is forwarded to the Environmental Health & Safety Manager. Behrens is Associate Professor of Biology and a marine ecologist at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. He received his Ph.D. in Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology from the University of California at Santa Barbara. His research primarily focuses on the larval ecology of bivalves, disease ecology of marine invertebrates, and community-based monitoring.
