Norway and PLU: 125 Years and Counting Founding of PLUIn 1889, the Norwegian Synod sent Bjug Harstad to the Pacific Coast to start a school. He visited Portland, Seattle and Tacoma, and it was decided that Parkland, Wash., should be the Lutheran education center of the Northwest. Pflueger houses around 200 students, and is on lower campus, right next to the outdoor sand volleyball court and fire pits. It’s a short walk to the Anderson University Center. Every year since 2011, PLU has sent two Lutes to Norway as part of its summer Peace Scholars program. The Lutes learn about peacebuilding and dialogue, bringing what they learn home to apply it on
