    Polish history, one would find that Jews were first invited to come to live under the king’s protection in the 13th century. This led to Poland becoming a relatively safe haven for Jews for centuries. It also meant that Poland had one of the largest Jewish populations in all of Christian-dominated Europe.     Nisqually woman, Svinth Carpenter received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in education from Pacific Lutheran University before teaching in Tacoma Public Schools. She was a lifelong advocate for her own Nisqually people and other Salish tribes and a leader in advocating for Indigenous education, the preservation of Indigenous history, and the revitalization of Nisqually culture, spirituality, and arts.
