series, A Song of Ice and Fire, became a global phenomenon very unexpectedly in the last decade and millions tuned in to watch the culmination of the show in May 2019. With its penchant for punishing even the most noble of characters with a grisly end, it was obvious that whatever way the show ended, it would be bittersweet at best.
