Polymerase II cleavage. The RNA polymerase mutant E1230K has a greatly reduced ability to bind TFIIS. Adaptive mutations were found to go down for E1230K. The opposite result was expected, that adaptive mutagenesis would increase for E1230K, because RNA polymerase II can misincorporate adenine due to an 8-oxoguanine, and TFIIS regulates transcription.
