For the Edlund Family, Roots to PLU Run Deep One might say the passion Phil Edlund ’00, ’06 has for PLU began with a lawn service. As a 16-year-old, he mowed the lawn of Thora Larson, one of the first members of Q Club. “She told me to go down and sign up at Q Club as a junior member, so I did,” Phil recalls. From there, he has received two degrees from PLU and helped fund the building of the Morken Center for Learning and Technology. Of course, Phil received a bit of a nudge from his family

About the ConductorBrian Edward Galante (b. 1974) is Associate Director of Choral Activities at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, where he conducts the University Chorale, University Singers and Knight’s Chorus. He also teaches undergraduate courses in vocal pedagogy for the choral music educator, secondary choral methods, and choral literature. Galante received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas and his Master of Music and Bachelor of Music

data, a group of PLU faculty, students, alumni and administrators sought to evaluate which social and environmental projects are active now and have the capacity to grow, seek partnerships, and become full-fledged social enterprises on their own. The data collection project began in early 2022 and concluded on June 1, 2022. Our group collected data on all social impact initiatives across the PLU campus, including all academic disciplines and non-academic programs. We asked our colleagues and

that were left on the forest floor many years ago due to the extra work getting the good wood from them. They were sawed just a few blocks from the Fritts shop in Tacoma. The pipe shades were carved by Jude Fritts. They are made of Basswood that grew in the Appalachian Mountains. This wood is also used for the keys and some action parts as it is very stable and strong for its weight. Due to its firm grain structure it responds well to the carving tools.

the audience has grown, no one has ever entertained the idea of moving to a larger venue because of the charming intimacy created by the smaller scale of the venue and the close proximity of the performers to the audience. As a result of this intimacy, the audience really sits and listens to the music; the amphitheater becomes a listening room. It has a wonderful impact on campus conferences, when attendees are walking by on their way to dinner and see this big outdoor arts event taking place
