September 1, 2008 PLU grad receives national journalism award The Society of Professional Journalists honored PLU graduate Breanne Coats ’08 with the 2008 Julie Galvan Outstanding Graduate in Journalism Award. The national award recognizes one graduate who is considered the most outstanding on the basis of character, community service, scholarship, proficiency in practical journalism and significant contributions to their SPJ chapter. March 2, 2009 Making study away possible A new $2 million scholarship fund will increase study abroad opportunities for low-income students at Pacific Lutheran University. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation gave the university a $1 million challenge grant to initiate the endowment fund a year ago.
