heritage.PLU's Scandinavian HeritageScandinavian immigrants and their descendants have had a distinct influence on Pacific Lutheran University. Since its founding in 1890 by Norwegian minister Bjug Harstad, PLU has nurtured its Nordic roots. Today, evidence of these strong Scandinavian ties is seen in the Scandinavian Cultural Center, the Scandinavian Cultural Center Council, the Norwegian and Nordic Studies Programs, and the Scandinavian Immigrant Experience Collection (located in the University Library

Ms. Bishop is an Adjunct Clinical Instructor at the University of Washington’s Department of Global Health and an invited member of the Civic Council for a program of the UW Jackson School of International Studies, representing perspectives on human rights for LGBTIQ people. She is also on the Advisory Panel of the Women in Global Health Seattle chapter. She holds Master’s degrees in Social Work and Public Health, both from Columbia University
