Relay For Life is a volunteer-driven cancer fundraising event of the American Cancer Society. Each relay team is required to have one person walking on the track at all times during the event. March 27, 2008 MESA Day tests math and science skills The voices of 400 elementary, middle and high school students bounced off the walls of Olson and Memorial gyms at the annual MESA Day competition. Working in teams, the students built catapults from Dixie cups and plastic spoons, constructed sail cars from straws, pins and paper, and tested the sturdiness of bridges made from Popsicle sticks and glue. The daylong event also included the egg drop, trebuchet, math and speech competitions, and

presence was strong among the crowd, too. Members of the university’s Habitat chapter carpooled from campus to cheer on the Krises at the base of the building on the sunny fall afternoon. The energy level was high as they led an “Attaway!” chant before the Krises took the plunge. Each of them chose a hype song that played as they rappelled: Tom Krise went with “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley and Patty Krise chose “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin, one of her all-time favorites.
