First day of school tradition at PLU PLU's academic year starts with convocation, held on the first day of each fall semester. Scholarships from the American Chemical Society Puget Sound Section – Deadline April 1 Posted by: Craig Fryhle / March 15, 2015 March 15, 2015 The Puget Sound Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS PSS) awards two $1500 scholarships to chemistry majors studying at 4-year colleges and universities in the Puget Sound Section of the ACS.   This scholarship is named after Julia Rutherford, a PLU chemistry major who was very active in the American Chemical Society and who died in 2011.   The

additional $1,000 for professional development, a certificate, and an opportunity to recognize an influential high school teacher. The application deadline is November 30, 2017.
