what you can build from it, or what patterns you can find and connections you can make. When did you decide on environmental studies? My Writing 101 course was “Evolutionary Biology and Taxonomy.” The purpose of the class was to learn scientific technical writing, but I was surprised at how arbitrary taxonomy is. That got me interested in animal studies and a critical lens of the sciences, which is why I added environmental studies. The first thing I noticed on the bus from the airport [in Oxford

notation software. I started playing with it and it was fun, so I started writing music. My first piece was called “Eternal Desires”— so edgy. I was 11 when I wrote it. It became very clear how good music was for me. I am on the spectrum, so it was hard for me to find my thing, and really important that I did find it. When was the moment you knew you wanted to study music at PLU? I actually took a break from music when I graduated from high school, which I am not sure whether or not I regret. I moved

student president was an enriching learning curve, and I’m very grateful for my time in student government. Learning about the legislative process, getting experience writing legislation, and making changes on campus was gratifying. I’m also proud of what senators accomplished, including integrating more authors of color in classroom textbooks and launching a campaign for a $15 unlimited yearly pass for Pierce Transit. What are your plans for the future? Ruggeri: After graduation, I’ll pursue

Clover Park School District. It was very special. Clover Park is a very diverse district. I worked with second graders. I had a lot to learn as I changed from an observer to a full-time student teacher. I love reading and writing, and it was so fun to connect with the students through those subjects and through practices that elevated and uplifted the assets that each student brought to the table. Half of my students were multilingual learners (MLL). I learned strategies that promote meaning-making

there. What did you enjoy about collaborating and researching with Professors [Peter] Grosvenor and Hames? I really appreciate the international relations theory aspect that Dr. Grosvenor was able to provide, as he has been to Palestine. I was able to get feedback and more nuance from him. I don’t shy away from peer reviews, because they just make the paper stronger, having multiple sets of eyeballs on it. Dr. Hames assisted me in tailoring some of the writing, because this paper is what I used when
