create artificial gravity, and how many people to bring aboard so that the genetics of those on board can be uncompromised in future generations. Next, they discuss the challenge of how to feed the population using a self-sustaining biosphere. Students then build their own self-sustaining terrarium inside a glass jar and seal it to represent the conditions that would be present on the ship. This project was a favorite for many of Heath’s students, including mathematics and physics double major

The Lightboard from Instructional Technologies is a tool that can be used to create written or visual demonstrations for instructional videos.
person at PLU to produce a Lightboard video. Dr. Hay built her own homemade Lightboard to create videos for her physics classes, which were very helpful to her students. For more background on Dr. Hay’s Lightboard, visit her Faculty Spotlight page. After learning about this tool, iTech applied for and received a grant from the Northwest Academic and Computing Consortium (NWACC) to create their own Lightboard. See the Lightboard Construction page for a blog of our process. Testing the Starphire Glass

There has been a lot of learning I have had to do on my own, especially in subjects I don’t usually spend a lot of time on as a computer science major, like physics and math. Being excited and open to learning has really helped me in this internship. How do you manage working as a full-time intern while also being a full-time student? Prioritizing my mental health has been very important to me. I try to take time away from work and school to wind down and do

Then I took this philosophy class and it was like oh, this is what I have been interested in.” Dr. Arnold says, “Broadly speaking, all areas of the academy and education have elements of philosophy to them. You could do the philosophy of just about anything: physics, religion, literature etc. I don’t think philosophy is done only in its department. The way it
