Seminar Solutions of sulfate-stabilized gold nanoparticles (GNP’s) were synthesized based on variations to the methods of Davis et al. in an attempt to produce monodisperse preparations of small (~20nm), spherical, SERS-active nanoparticles for future detection of biological molecules such as Erythropoietin. Altogether, over 100 variations to the Davis method were performed, including potential SERS active green approaches, to formulate specialized GNP’s in a reproducible fashion. The key factors for

One area of interest for us in our studies are places where the creek and its surrounding was restored to its natural form or preserved from alteration. Two such places were the Clover Creek Reserve and Parkland Prairie Natural Reserve in Parkland.Click here for Google Earth

the manager, Fernando Duran, who is passionate about making the farm healthy for flowers and workers. He told me the farm uses a quarter of the pesticides it used 20 years ago. In an effort to eliminate pesticides, Duran said, a researcher at LatinFlor found a natural biological control for a stubborn pest, the leaf miner. The scientist found the wasp is a natural enemy of the insect, attacking its larvae. He then developed a vacuum that is used to suck the dead insects off every plant. “I’m happy

  • Jacob Taylor-Mosquera ’09 was 18 when he returned to Colombia. Although he considered it a homecoming, it took several more visits for him to truly feel at home.

biological family after a three-month search — he can finally say he feels a sense of belonging there. “This is the first time I’ve truly lived in Colombia,” he said. “I’ve only ever been a tourist before.” Still, even before he considered Colombia home, it was his family there who motivated him during a turbulent time as a student at Pacific Lutheran University. Taylor-Mosquera arrived on PLU’s campus, after earning an associate degree from Tacoma Community College, in search of a vocation that would
