  • Lecturer - Band Studies; Conductor - Concert Band | Music | veghmb@plu.edu | 253-535-7602 | Matt Vegh graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in 2012 with a Bachelor’s of Music Education (K-12 band and K-12 music) and Central Washington University in 2016 with a Master’s of Music in wind band conducting, where he studied with Lewis Norfleet and Mark Lane. Professor Vegh also teaches at Steilacoom High School.

    performed as a guest ensemble with Pacific Lutheran University’s Percussion Ensemble twice. Matt Vegh’s primary instrument is saxophone. He studied privately with Tracy Knoop, Dr. Erik Steighner, and online with Chad Lefkowitz-Brown. He has been fortunate to perform with the Columbia Basin Jazz Orchestra, South Sound Symphonic Band, Sophisticated Swing Jazz Band, and various other groups in the Pacific Northwest.

  • Lecturer - Saxophone | Music | steighev@plu.edu | 253-535-7602 | Praised by the Tacoma News Tribune for his “effortless lyricism” as well as his “smooth tone and fluid virtuosity,” saxophonist Erik Steighner has performed with ensembles including the Austin Symphony Orchestra, the Federal Way Symphony, the Northwest Sinfonietta, the Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra, the San Antonio Symphony, and Symphony Tacoma.

  • Professor of Chemistry* | Department of Chemistry | fryhlecb@plu.edu | 253-535-7530 | Craig Fryhle began his career at PLU  in 1986 working on organic synthesis targets related to natural products and potential mechanism-based enzyme inhibitors of the shikimic acid pathway.   He has mentored undergraduate  researchers in these areas who have gone on to careers in academia, industry and other pursuits.

    University of Michigan, and is currently on the jazz faculty at Pacific Lutheran University. Kate’s international resume continues to grow, including performances in Russia, Latvia, Turkey, Switzerland, South Korea, Cuba, and Slovakia. She has appeared on stage with Terry Riley, Pauline Oliveros, Bobby Previte, Skerik, Patricia Barber, Elvis Costello, Brandi Carlile, Sir Mix-a-lot, Seattle Repertory Theater, Cafe Nordo, the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra and Seattle Symphony Pops, among others.
