DebatePLU’s Debate team has a long history of intercollegiate forensics competition with a recent focus on public policy. For several years, PLU hosted the Ruth Anderson Public Debate. A student was paired with a local politician or subject matter expert and debated current hot topics. Those issues included rent control, minimum wage, and bipartisanship. A year later, Eckstein, a communications major who hopes to pursue a career in public relations or television journalism, says the advertisement changed his life. “Actually, working at the funeral home was one of the most rewarding jobs I’ve had,” says Eckstein.
