Awards & Recognitions

In 2024, the Department of Social Work introduced three new awards to recognize graduating seniors.

This award is open to a student who consistently demonstrates a commitment to exceptional critical thinking, active curiosity about learning, frequent self-reflection, and dedication to academic excellence. This student’s quality of work reflects the pursuit of education grounded in a desire to excel as a social worker and contribute to the growth of the profession. The student’s participation in classes and in the program enhances the learning and growth of their colleagues.

Awards Nomination Process
Students can self-nominate, nominate a peer, or be nominated by a faculty or staff member. A departmental awards committee will review applications and render a decision based on criteria established for the award.

This award is open to a senior student who is completing a practicum placement and is in good standing. The student exemplifies what it means to be an outstanding practitioner by embodying professionalism, ethical practice, self-reflective care, and critical consideration of client, agency, and community needs. The student consistently receives noteworthy feedback from staff, faculty, and practicum instructors in recognition of their excellent conduct and work.

Awards Nomination Process
Practicum Coordinator will submit nominations. A departmental awards committee will review applications and render a decision based on criteria established for the award.

The third and final new social work award is the The JoDee Keller Award for Outstanding Service & Leadership in Social Work. This new award was named for recently retired Professor Emeritus, JoDee Keller, who due to her 30+ years of program leadership, along with her willingness to come back after retirement to shepherd the program through changes, will forever remain a part of the foundation of PLU’s Program.
