Each employee is insured through the State Industrial Insurance program that is paid for by the university with a partial contribution made by each employee through payroll deduction. This insurance covers work-related injuries, deaths, and occupational illnesses. It does not cover employees while away from work or while driving to or from work.

A person who provides a service to the academic program, but who is not in one of the previously mentioned classifications, has neither voice nor vote in the Faculty Assembly, has no vote in electronic balloting, and may not vote on matters of personnel (e.g. the election of chair and dean, and the hiring of new faculty).

A promotion is a movement to a job at a higher pay grade or a job with significantly higher duties. Vacant positions may be filled by promoting current employees.
