something that exists within many words.” Hall worked with a tribal elder to come up with a phrase equivalent to the English word interconnectedness. “When I talked to my tribal elder and asked him if we had a word to explain interconnectedness, the first thing he said was -mixw, a suffix in our language that means life force or anything with life force in it, like the earth,” she said. “A lot of our words in our language have to do with life and the environment, and that is why there is not one word

They piled in the minivan again in May, when Wells, Olds, videographer and editor Melissa Campbell ’10 and researcher Shannon

  • TACOMA, WASH. (June 27, 2019) — Dr. Jon Grahe’s reach extends around the globe as an open science ambassador. Nearly a decade ago, Dr. Grahe declared that he wanted to change how we study social science. Because of his tireless efforts, a new approach to…

, research methods, materials and data are shared digitally around the world to tackle inquiries. Why is this important? Traditional research can yield low replicability of previous studies. This suggests—in part— questionable research practices, including manipulating data to fit hypotheses and desired results, or worse yet, data fabrication. A “replicability crisis” (i.e., the inability to replicate earlier research findings), is addressed with open science practices. Benefits of open science include

Hardware must have a corrosion resistant finish, and all surfaces and edges must be smooth to prevent damage to the attached body harness or lanyard. All components of body harness systems, unless otherwise specified, must be capable of supporting a minimum fall impact load of 5,000 pounds (fall arrest) or 4,000 pounds (fall restraint) applied at the lanyard point of connection. Employees are not allowed to use Vertical or Horizontal

taken for characterization using instrumental analysis: diffusion ordered spectroscopy (DOSY) NMR, N-Proton NMR, and Uv-vis spectroscopy to determine what was synthesized prior to further synthesis of the nanocrystals. Characterizing using DOSY allows for the estimation of the diffusion constant and mass of the intermediate. Whereas Uv-Vis spectroscopy allowed for the confirmation of absorbance at a certain wavelength to determine the formation of clusters and reinforce what type of intermediate was
