Wendy Call Nonfiction Biography Biography Wendy Call (she/her) is the co-editor of the craft anthology Telling True Stories: A Nonfiction Writers’ Guide (Penguin, 2007) and the new annual Best Literary Translations (Deep Vellum, 2024). She wrote No Word for Welcome: The Mexican Village Faces the Global Economy (Nebraska, 2011), winner of the Grub Street Book Prize and International Latino book Award, and the chapbook Tilled Paths Through Wilds of Thought (MBR/K2, 2012). Teaching Philosophy Although I believe that part of a professor’s job is to instruct students and give them basic knowledge, a much larger part of the job is encouraging students to take an active role in their own learning. By being enthusiastic about psychology and education in general, I try to motivate students and stimulate their natural desire to learn. To achieve this goal, I try to teach students to apply the material in their own lives and become good critical consumers of

It was during this time that she discovered her true calling in aesthetics. Since the summer of 2023, she has been a member of the PLU community, sharing her knowledge and basic nursing skills with her students. She finds immense satisfaction in teaching and supporting new students during their clinicals, witnessing their remarkable progress in a short span of time

Writing bears the responsibility to appeal to the linguistic, intellectual and/or emotional pleasures, and to expand the reader’s understanding of the powers and politics of voice, knowledge, and/or identity. I also take mentorship seriously, and my role as an instructor is to motivate and guide students to a place of creativity and reflection, where those students can build on their strengths and improve on their weaknesses. I believe the goal of interacting in a

piece or a direction hears the right question and then realizes what to do next. To me a workshop or mentorship doesn’t involve ‘teaching’ or ‘learning’ so much as rediscovering what we already know but may have forgotten, overlooked, or masked. I think we’re all apprentices to our work, and the heart of this relationship lies in the way we choose to be in the world. I want students to interrogate their experiences, trust their sensibilities, and open themselves to the possibilities revealed through
