Jenny teaches American literature from 1860 to the present, with a special emphasis on the representation of race, gender and sexuality in fiction written after 1945. She also teaches a Writing 101 course on water, politics and place for the First Year Experience Program. Samuel Torvend, Ph.D., ’73 has spent his life studying religion and politics. “I wrote my senior thesis on religion and politics and I have never strayed from that,” Torvend said. The alumnus and longtime professor will be talking about, what else, religion and politics for his farewell lecture as the chair of the Lutheran Studies department.
