In 1987 John earned an associates degree from Highline Community College. At Highline he was the Washington Award for Vocational Excellence (WAVE) scholarship recipient which helped him to continue his education at Western Washington University. John resides in Tacoma and enjoys gardening in his backyard, dogs and traveling to Hawaii whenever possible.
