program at PLU. His scholarship in entrepreneurship and innovation coupled with substantial executive-level industry experience and business ownership align with his teaching topics and create opportunities for students to engage both the theory and application of management in unique and powerful ways. Leveraging techniques and frameworks developed through research and practice, Dr. Brown engages students to apply their academic knowledge to live projects in the region and around the world. This

responses in a constructive and generous manner. Ideally, a writing course develops the critical impulse as much as the creative one. I believe readers at any level possess inherent critical instincts; I view my role as encouraging and enabling them to better articulate and understand those responses, and to provide them with a toolbox of terminology they can employ in their own critical and creative pursuits. Participants often find it far easier to evaluate techniques and elements at play in stories

conduct studies to better understand the chemistry that determines the final nanocrystal shape and crystal structure of a batch of colloidal nanocrystals. Students in the Munro Lab synthesize semiconductor nanocrystals using air-free techniques. We use XRD, TEM, and ICP-MS to characterize nanocrystal composition, shape, and structure. Student researchers exchange the native ligands on the nanocrystal surface with novel molecules and characterize the effects of ligand exchange using UV/vis absorbance

research centers on mountain building processes and regional climate change and the associated influences of each on atmospheric dynamics. Specifically, I use stable isotope geochemistry, clumped isotope thermometry, detrital provenance techniques, and climate modeling to study the tectonic, topographic and climatic evolution of orogenic systems as recorded in proxies preserved in sedimentary basins. As a teacher, I implement hands-on and field-based teaching strategies to engage students both inside

communities of methane-oxidizing bacteria in Lake Washington sediment, focusing on techniques allowing for estimating population sizes of different subgroups of these bacteria. Since her arrival at PLU in the Fall of 2002, Dr. Auman has primarily taught introductory biology and microbiology courses. As a microbial ecologist, Dr. Auman’s professional interests focus on studying microbial communities in natural environments with the goal of understanding how the microbes contribute to global processes and
